Elvis Presley released his first RCA single in November 1955 and twelve months later was firmly ensconsed as the most popular recording artist in America, perhaps the world, thanks to a slew of hit singles. His manager Colonel Tom Parker wasted no time in ensuring this success and popularity was capitalised upon, releasing two albums during 1956, which topped the US charts for ten weeks near the beginning of the year (Elvis Presley) and five weeks towards the end (Elvis). These albums were issued with different titles in the UK (Rock N Roll and Rock N Roll No 2) but confirmed his worldwide popularity, with the former topping the UK charts. This was despite Elvis having not yet topped the singles chart, something that would be rectified in 1957 with All Shook Up.
These two albums, present on one CD for the very first time, featuring two of his big breakthrough hits in Blue Suede Shoes (originally by Carl Perkins, although Elvis scored the bigger hit) and Blue Moon, previously a hit for The Marcels. The albums would conitnue to provide Elvis with hits over the next year or so, with Rip It Up and Paralyzed both charting during the course of 1957. |
